DON'T GET CAUGHT UNPREPARED
STUDENTS
Emergencies don’t wait - don't get caught unprepared. Having solid preparation can give you peace of mind and, in the face of an emergency, save lives. We’re here to help every Husky prepare for emergencies before they happen. The Office of Emergency Management has developed a university-wide University Safety campaign, UConnREADY, to “create a community proud to be safe.” Click on the icons below to access information and tools to make you:
HOW CAN I BE UCONNREADY?
- Get UConnALERTS

- Review the Emergency Hazard Guide
- The UConn Emergency Hazard Guide assists with learning how to prepare for and respond to different types of emergencies. Do you know what to do?
- Take a few Seconds For Safety
- Seconds for Safety helps one learn about what to do in various emergency situations, get preparedness tips and improve your understanding of emergency terminology.
- Make a Plan with the UConnREADY
- The UConn Ready Planning helps you create a personal emergency plan and share it.
- Check Out UConn's Emergency Operations Plan (EOP)
- The EOP is an all-hazards plan that details the University's procedures for planning, response, recovery and mitigation of hazards and threats to the University of Connecticut at all campus locations.
- Make a Kit
- Having a disaster supply kit is an important step in being prepared in case of an emergency. Your supply kit should be a collection of basic items you may need in the event of an emergency, at home or on campus.

ARE YOU A RESIDENT ASSISTANT?
The Office of Emergency Management encourages Resident Assistants (RA) to share this preparedness information with their residents. Here is a plan to help you get started:
- Review the preparedness resources on this website for yourself and develop a personal emergency plan.
- Share this page with your residents.
- Ensure that your residents know two ways out of the building. During an emergency, a primary exit may not be the closest one or may become blocked.
- Remind your residents to update their contact information used by UConnALERT.
- Print and post Seconds for Safety flyers on your bulletin boards.
- Schedule/attend University Safety training sessions:
- Contact OEM at oem@uconn.edu to schedule a training or discussion.
